LONG BEACH, California (KCAL) — Grubhub has fired a Long Beach delivery driver after he was caught eating a customer’s meal last week.“He took bite-fulls out of each plate that was in that order,” said Martin Luzanilla, the owner of “Mexihanas.”Luzanilla’s security camera captured the delivery driver chowing down in the restaurant’s parking lot, moments after he picked up the customer’s order. After noticing that the driver had not moved for several minutes and that his face was diving into a plate full of food, Luzanilla decided to confront the man.The driver told Luzanilla that he was munching on his own lunch. After, Luzanilla gave him a fist bump and walked away. However, when he checked the security camera footage Luzanilla confirmed his gut feeling.“I was mad. I was upset,” he said. “The safety of my customers is number one.”The GrubHub driver left and Luzanilla rushed to call the customer to tell them...

This 1980s Domino’s delivery car looks like a spaceship, and you can buy it

(CNN) — The 1985 Domino’s Pizza delivery car looks more like it was designed to shoot down invading alien spacecraft than to bring you a hot delicious pepperoni pie. But back in the ’80s, Domino’s founder Tom Monaghan ordered 10 Tritan A2 cars and customized them with warming ovens in the back to deliver pizzas around Ann Arbor, Michigan, where Domino’s is headquartered.Just a few survive today. One of them is being offered for sale at a Las Vegas classic car auction on November 10. Even the car’s current owner admits, it’s pretty terrible to drive and probably wasn’t even that great at delivering pizza. But it does look awfully cool. The Tritan A2 was designed by engineers James Amick and his son Douglas. It’s similar to a series of other vehicles they designed with large arch-shaped rear wings. The wings were designed to capture crosswinds to help provide forward propulsion, like a sail, along with electric motors or gasoline engines. It’s unclear if this partic...

Students gathered on the campus of Harvard University Wednesday to demonstrate in support of Palestinians living in Gaza as the war between Hamas and Israel rages on. SKY7-HD was over the scene as some students laid on the ground, holding a “die in” to protest the loss of life within Gaza. Later in the day, a different rally was underway around 4 p.m. at City Hall Plaza in Boston.Demonstrations came on the same day that President Joe Biden visited Israel to show his support. Biden’s visit, in turn, came as Israeli forces have started allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza all while the area recovers from a deadly blast on Tuesday at a Gaza hospital that killed hundreds of people. “Over the last week, I’ve had family members killed by the airstrikes and so, I think, especially yesterday was a hard day for me,” said one student at Harvard. As part of their demonstration, protesters headed over the Charles River and congregated at the Harvard Business School in Allston where Former Pr...

Business, faith groups rally around Healey’s housing bill as transfer tax draws opposition

Business and faith organizations cheered a $4.1 billion housing bond bill filed by Gov. Maura Healey as a potential silver bullet to counteract the high cost of living in Massachusetts while real estate and fiscal groups pushed back on parts of the proposal.Advocates said the legislation comes at a crucial moment in Massachusetts as high costs of housing and living push people out of cities and towns to other parts of the country. Critics, like the Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance, argue the legislation is packed with “just about every bad idea.”Associated Industries of Massachusetts President Brooke Thompson said the business group supports the bill, and the development of “reasonably priced housing” in Massachusetts will ensure workers can live and raise families in the state.“Virtually every employer in Massachusetts has at one time heard a valued employee say: ‘I love working for this company, but my family can’t afford a house here,’” Thompson said in a statement. “AIM looks forwa...

Alex Verdugo is lone Gold Glove finalist from indefensible 2023 Red Sox

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 14:54:08 GMT

Alex Verdugo is a first-time Gold Glove finalist, Rawlings announced on Wednesday afternoon. He’s also the only Red Sox player up for the prestigious defensive award this season.Verdugo is up against Adolis García of the Rangers and Kyle Tucker of the Rangers, but has a strong case to take home the gold. He finished the season plus-1 in Outs Above Average (70th MLB percentile), behind García’s plus-3. His plus-9 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) tied for the lead among AL right-fielders, as good as García (plus-7) and Tucker (plus-2) combined.Statistically, this should come down to Verdugo and García. Though Tucker led the AL with 13,23 ½ innings in right field, he was minus-4 OAA and only plus-2 DRS. Verdugo was in the 95th MLB percentile in Arm Strength, and his 10.6 Ultimate Zone Rating (UZR) outranked all AL right-fielders (minimum 140 innings) by a wide margin; García placed second with 6.4, but Tucker came in at minus-1.1.Gold Gloves are awarded through a combination of manager and co...
