Ask Amy: My husband and his siblings have their family party, and I’m left in the parking lot

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:09:09 GMT

Dear Amy: I’ve been married for 36 years. Whenever we used to see my husband’s family, there would be a point when the “family” would be in one room and the “not-family” in another.A few years ago, one of his sisters was very ill and needed help. All the siblings pitched in. She is healthy now, and it made them realize that they wanted to spend more time together. However, they exclude the “non-family” from these gatherings. They get together three or four times a year.My husband and I moved a distance away a few years ago. Just before we moved, his siblings got together to celebrate his birthday. I was not included.Last year when we traveled for one of these gatherings, I had dinner with a friend, and then waited for 30 minutes for my husband to come out of the restaurant where he was with his siblings! He now says I could have joined them, but I know they don’t want anyone but siblings.I have told him that if I travel with him again s...

DEAR HARRIETTE: I was on a small group work call the other day, and I noticed that one person in the group blatantly ignored me when I spoke directly to her.At first, I thought she might not have heard me, but then it became increasingly clear that she was intentionally choosing not to engage with me. I wrote a follow-up group email, and everyone responded but her.I am completely confused as to why she would do this, as I’ve never had any sort of negative interaction with her before. What do you think this could be about?Work TensionDEAR WORK TENSION: Stop driving yourself crazy trying to imagine what this woman’s issue with you might be. Ask her.Describe to her how you experienced her behavior during that work call. Be calm as you tell her what you noticed. Ask her if she intentionally chose not to engage you and, if so, why.Related ArticlesAdvice | Harriette Cole: I’m rattled by my friend’s unexplained death Advice | Harriette Col...

The 23-year-old right-hander struck out All-Star shortstop Corey Seager twice, including a 97-mph fastball on his last pitch in what was then a tie game.“He got a little nervous there in the first inning, might not get out of it. Protests again grip France but Macron not backing down

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:09:09 GMT

PARIS (AP) — Protesters disrupted traffic at Paris’ main airport and gathered again in other French cities on Thursday for strikes and demonstrations seeking to get President Emmanuel Macron to scrap pension reforms that have ignited a monthslong firestorm of public anger. In Paris, rat catchers set the tone by hurling the cadavers of rodents at City Hall. That protest Wednesday was one of the more shocking illustrations of how Macron’s plans to raise the national retirement age from 62 to 64 have infuriated workers. Broadcaster BFM-TV showed the rodents’ emaciated corpses being tossed by workers in white protective suits. Natacha Pommet, a leader of the public services branch of the CGT trade union, said Thursday that Paris’ rat catchers wanted “to show the hard reality of their mission” and that fury with Macron’s pension reforms is morphing into a wider movement of workers expressing grievances over salaries and other issues.“All this anger brings to...
